IBM's Emerging Technologies Toolkit, available through IBM alphaWorks has three new XML development tools. The software is designed to help developers reduce the manual coding required to create feature-rich on demand Web applications that use emerging XML standards and tie into Services Oriented Architectures.
An example of their use is provided by the automotive industry, to build customer service Web pages that use emerging XML standards offering voice, graphics, mathematical computations, data entry and other rich content. With these new tools, developers can create standards-based Web applications that offer vehicles, products and services to customers, faster, IBM says.
Additionally, IBM is introducing broader support for developers using XML with new skill-building resources on developerWorks, IBM's growing online developer community with more than 4.5 million users.

IBM's Compound XML Document Editor and XML Forms Generator can help developers create applications that leverage emerging XML standards and can tie into broader organizational development projects. Both tools are plug-ins to the open-source Eclipse platform, which provide a dynamic application development environment that works with existing Web applications.
Additionally, IBM's new XML Enhancements for Java can help developers use their existing software skills in XML and Java to create new applications, IBM reports.
IBM's new software for developers includes: -Compound XML Document Editor - helps developers create, edit and manage Web applications and XML documents that combine existing and emerging XML standards. With out-of-the-box support for XHTML, XForms, XML-Events, SMIL, SVG, VoiceXML, XUL, MathML and other emerging XML standards, the new software can help developers create advanced Web applications can include voice, graphics, mathematical computations, data entry forms and other rich content -- on a single page -- without requiring extensive hand-coding.
-XML Forms Generator - helps developers automatically build XML forms that can tie into business processes using Web services, building on standards such as Web Services Description Language (WSDL) and Java Server Page (JSP) response templates. The generated forms adhere to the XHTML and XForms 1.0 standards, and can be viewed in popular XHTML/XForms renderers.
-XML Enhancements for Java - new language extensions to Java 1.4 provide support for XML, XML Schema and XPath in Java. By integrating XML and Java, the new extensions simplify the development of XML-based applications, allowing developers to reuse existing Java libraries when developing XML code and vice versa.
